Guelph Queer Equality Art Attack Event
Tuesday Feb 4 / 7pm - 9pm
University Centre Rm. 332, University of Guelph
Join Guelph Queer Equality on February 4th from 7pm-9pm at the Guelph University Centre (room 332) to Wear Your Pride! We will be breaking out the fabric paint and glitter to redesign t-shirts and give them some extra rainbow flair. If painting isn't your thing, a button maker will also on site so you can still express your creativity. Some white t-shirts will be provided, but it is preferred that you bring your own.

LGBT Sex-Ed Workshop

In collaboration with the Wellness Centre and the AIDS Committee of Guelph and Wellington, Guelph Pride present this workshop aimed at discussing issues about sexual health for people who identify as LGBTQ. This will be a very informal workshop.

Astrology, Community Building and Healing Workshop

This workshop will be run in collaboration with GRCGED (The Guelph Resource Centre for Gender Empowerment and Diversity). A note from the facilitator: Astrology is something that has brought me a lot of insight into the ways that people break in and out of communities; it is also something that has brought me a lot of healing and allowed me to understand others and relationships of all kinds better. Sun signs, Moon signs, Sagittarius, Aquarius, earth, water, fire ? what is it all about!? This workshop will be an Astrology 101 for anyone wants to know more in general. We?ll also spend time focusing the conversation around using Astrology as a tool for relationship and community building, understanding conflict, different approaches to communication, feelings, struggles, and what are the possibilities through this for individual and collective healing. Winter Pride Open Mic Night

In collaboration with the Central Student Association, Guelph Pride presents the Winter Pride Open Mic Night where you can showcase your talent on stage! The mic is open for anyone and everyone so don't be shy! Don't want to perform? Come and watch! Its a free event!

his event is also free! This is a great opportunity to get some fresh air, skate, and meet other community members. There will be fun activities and some snack food at 10Carden.

That's My Drag: Winter Pride Princess Pageant
Saturday Feb 8 / 8:30pm
Red Papaya, Old Quebec Street Mall
THelp Crown Guelph's first Winter Pride Princess. Contestants will perform and event participants will be able to vote for the Winter Pride Princess. After the crowning of the Pride Princess, the dance will begin and the night will go on!
Advanced tickets for this event can be purchased at the Red Papaya. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Students will receive a $5 discount with a valid student ID. This event will be all ages and drinkers will be banded and carded upon entrance.

Winter Pride Film Screening

In collaboration with the Magnificence Collective and GRCGED (The Guelph Resource Centre for Gender Empowermet and Diversity), Guelph Pride presents this event which will showcase two films which will explore the intersection between queerness and gentrification. Please see below for a description of the two films.

Fenced OUT: FIERCE's Youth-Produced Documentary
Fenced OUT is a youth-inspired, produced and directed video created in collaboration between FIERCE, Paper Tiger Television and The Neutral Zone. Fenced OUT documents the struggle of LGBTSTQ youth of color to save the Christopher Street pier and the West Village from re-development and gentrification. While researching the history of the pier, FIERCE members discovered past generations of queer peoples' fight for use of public spaces at Christopher Street and the piers. We have continued to use the documentary as a public education tool to raise awareness about the increasing displacement, violence, and criminalization experienced by LGBTSTQ youth of color. To date we have reached over 3,000 people in New York City and nationwide. For more information, please visit fiercenyc.org.

FLAG WARS Shot over a four-year period, Linda Goode Bryant and Laura Poitras? Flag Wars is a poignant and very personal look at a community in Columbus, Ohio, undergoing gentrification. What happens when an influx of gay white homebuyers move into a working-class black neighborhood? As the new residents restore the beautiful but run-down homes, black homeowners must fight to hold onto their community and heritage. The inevitable clashes expose prejudice and self-interest on both sides, as well as the common dream to have a home to call one's own. Winner of the Jury Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival, Flag Wars is a candid, unvarnished portrait of privilege, poverty and local politics taking place across America.
